Organic Tava Tea Researches -The Ingredient of Wuyi Cliff Oolong tea and Cancers

Wuyi Cliff Oolong tea, the best of Oolong and one of 3 ingredients of Tava Tea, is a species of Camellia sinensis belonging to the family Theaceae, native the Wuyi Mountain area. Its leaves and leaf buds has been used as tea in Chinese culture and many places in the world, including Wuyi Rock Tea, Tie Guan Yin tea, Taiwan tea and Oolong tea, Iron Goddess of Mercy and other products in Fujian, etc.. Oolong can be bought as green or black tea but it is best known as a black tea in the process of withering under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting.

4. Cancers
a.
In the determination of determine in vivo possibilities of inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in rat cancer cells by green, oolong, and black teas and also to further identify the mechanisms inhibiting cancer cell proliferation , in the study of "Induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in cancer cells by in vivo metabolites of teas" by Zhang G, Miura Y, Yagasaki K.(a), researchers found that induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest may be important mechanisms of in vivo proliferation inhibition of AH109A and other cancer cells by these teas.

b. In the experiment on the antimutagenicity and anticarcinogenicity of tea extracts and tea polyphenols including EC, ECG, EGC, EGCG and TFs. in the study of "Antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic activity of tea polyphenols" by Kuroda Y, Hara Y.(b), researchers found that the inhibition of tumors may be due to both extracellular and intracellular mechanisms including the modulation of metabolism, blocking or suppression, modulation of DNA replication and repair effects, promotion, inhibition of invasion and metastasis, and induction of novel mechanisms.

4.a. Melanoma cancer
In the study of "Melanogenesis inhibition by an Oolong tea extract in b16 mouse melanoma cells and UV-induced skin pigmentation in brownish guinea pigs" Aoki Y, Tanigawa T, Abe H, Fujiwara Y.[4a], researchers found that Oolong tea might be effective in whitening and that its inhibitory effect on melanogenesis was involved in the decrease of intracellular tyrosinase at the mRNA level.

4.b. Intestinal cancer
According to the study of "Inhibition of intestinal carcinogenesis by a new flavone derivative, chafuroside, in oolong tea" by Niho N, Mutoh M, Sakano K, Takahashi M, Hirano S, Nukaya H, Sugimura T, Wakabayashi K.[4b], researchers found that chafuroside, a chemical compound of Oolong tea might be a good chemopreventive agent for colon cancer.

4.c. Liver cancer
In the testing of Tea consumption may alter the catalytic activities of P450 enzymes in Oolong (Chinese) tea, Japanese green tea and Earl Grey tea, in the study of "Effects of Chinese, Japanese and Western tea on hepatic P450 enzyme activities in rats" by Niwattisaiwong N, Luo XX, Coville PF, Wanwimolruk S.(4c), researchers found that there were also significant increases (p < 0.05) in the activity of CYP3A in livers of animals given Oolong tea (653 +/- 174 vs 382 +/- 114 pmol/mg/min) and Earl Grey tea (751 +/- 202 pmol/mg/min).

4.d. Stomach cancer
In the experiment of human stomach cancer KATO III cells to oolong tea polyphenol extact [OTPE] in the study of "Oolong tea polyphenol extract induces apoptosis in human stomach cancer cells" by Hibasami H, Jin ZX, Hasegawa M, Urakawa K, Nakagawa M, Ishii Y, Yoshioka K., (4d), researchers found that the growth inhibition by OTPE results from the induction of apoptosis in the KATO III cells.
