Written by Chanel M. contributed by Kyle J. Norton, All right reserve

Wuyi Cliff Oolong tea, the best of Oolong and one of 3 ingredients of Tava Tea, is a species of Camellia sinensis belonging to the family Theaceae, native the Wuyi Mountain area. Its leaves and leaf buds has been used as tea in Chinese culture and many places in the world, including Wuyi Rock Tea, Tie Guan Yin tea, Taiwan tea and Oolong tea, Iron Goddess of Mercy and other products in Fujian, etc.. Oolong can be bought as green or black tea but it is best known as a black tea in the process of withering under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting.

Health Benefits

Cholesterol
1. Oolong tea and hypolipidemic and growth suppressive
according to the study of "Comparative studies on the hypolipidemic and growth suppressive effects of oolong, black, pu-erh, and green tea leaves in rats' by Kuo KL, Weng MS, Chiang CT, Tsai YJ, Lin-Shiau SY, Lin JK.(10a], researchers found that black tea leaves and partially fermented oolong tea leaves were more effective on their growth suppressive and hypolipidemic effects as compared to the nonfermented green tea leaves.

2. Hypolipidemic and antiobesity effects
In the evuluation of hypolipidemic and antiobesity effects of tea and tea polyphenols, in the study of "Mechanisms of hypolipidemic and anti-obesity effects of tea and tea polyphenols" by Lin JK, Lin-Shiau SY.[10b], researchers found that the molecular mechanisms of fatty acid synthase gene suppression by tea polyphenols (EGCG, theaflavins) may invite down-regulation of EGFR/PI3K/Akt/Sp-1 signal transduction pathways.

3. Reduce dietary lipid absorption
In the assessment of possibility of polyphenol-enriched oolong tea to reduce dietary lipid absorption in humans, in the study of "Polyphenol-enriched oolong tea increases fecal lipid excretion" by Hsu TF, Kusumoto A, Abe K, Hosoda K, Kiso Y, Wang MF, Yamamoto S.[10c], researchers found that Cholesterol excretion tended to increase in polyphenol-enriched oolong tea period and suggested that indicated that polyphenol-enriched oolong tea could increase lipid excretion into feces when subjects took high-lipid diet.

4. Adiponectin levels and low-density lipoprotein
In the assesenent of
influences plasma adiponectin levels, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particle size of the study of "Oolong tea increases plasma adiponectin levels and low-density lipoprotein particle size in patients with coronary artery disease" by Shimada K, Kawarabayashi T, Tanaka A, Fukuda D, Nakamura Y, Yoshiyama M, Takeuchi K, Sawaki T, Hosoda K, Yoshikawa J.[10d], researchers found that Oolong tea may have beneficial effects on the progression of atherosclerosis in patients with CAD.
